Cheap vs Expensive Massage Chairs: Where the Extra Money Goes
Most of the price difference sits in a part you cannot see and cannot upgrade later. Everything else is packaging.

1. The roller mechanism
Almost all of the price gap between a ₹80,000 chair and a ₹3,00,000 one sits in the mechanism that touches your back. Everything else is packaging around it. A budget chair runs 2D rollers, which travel up and down the spine and side to side at a fixed depth, and that is genuinely pleasant for about three weeks. Then you stop reaching for it, because the pressure never changes and your body has learned the pattern.
3D adds depth. The rollers push forward into the muscle and pull back, so you can lean on a tight shoulder and ease off over the lower spine. 4D goes further and controls the speed and rhythm of that forward push, which is the difference between a machine passing over a knot and a thumb stopping on it. If you compare one number between two chairs, compare the mechanism. It is the only part you cannot fix later with a better program.
2. Track length
The rollers ride a rail, and the rail decides how much of you they can physically reach. Short rails stop at the lower back. That is why some chairs feel like they treat your shoulders properly and forget you have hips.
An SL-track, sometimes sold as a super-long track, is one continuous curved rail that follows the neck and spine, then bends under the seat to carry the rollers to the glutes and thighs. Building that bend is the expensive part, and it is the cleanest line between price tiers in the whole category. Both NexGen chairs use SL tracks, so nothing drops out in the middle of a program.
3. Frame, motors and airbags
A chair in a family home runs several sessions a day for years, which is a different duty cycle than the one a budget frame is rated for. Cheap chairs also tend to place a handful of airbags in the seat and call it full-body compression. A real system inflates and releases across the shoulders, arms, waist, hips and calves in sequence, and you feel the difference in your legs within one session.
Upholstery is the quiet one. Same person, same seat, same contact points, several thousand times. Budget covers go shiny and then split at the shoulder line, usually somewhere around year two.
4. Who answers the phone in three years
This is the factor buyers weigh least and regret most. A massage chair is an appliance with motors under load, and eventually something needs a part. If the seller is an import listing with no service presence, you own a very large piece of furniture the moment anything fails.

Buy the best mechanism your budget reaches and treat Bluetooth audio, ambient lighting and wireless charging as pleasant extras rather than reasons to choose. Those features cost the manufacturer very little and market extremely well, which is precisely why budget chairs lead with them.
